Hope all is well out there. I came upon an interesting article that I wanted to share. So apparently, while weaves make everyone look fantastic, it might one day be a lifesaver. In an recent event, a young lady in Kansas broke up with her boyfriend of 8 months. With the ex-boyfriend being a jilted lover, he fired shots into the back of this ladies car. Thankfully the lady was not hurt but the kicker of the story was that police found a bullet lodged into the tightly woven weave of the lady. How about that, a weave that stopped a bullet. Hello everyone, now that spring time is almost upon us, I thought I would just do a quick blog on where BNG is going in the coming few months. Our research shows that despite the current recession we are in, consumer demand for hair extensions will be at very high levels. Hair extensions are no longer for high powered celebrities but women from all walks of life. From young to old, consumers have realized that hair extensions are not used to just add length but to change styles. Having the freedom to do so is very empowering. By continuing to educate our consumers as well as improved technology, hair extensions are more accessible then ever.

Continuing on in 2009, we see that hair extension colors will play an increasing role in how women choose their extensions. As we have known, blondes are seasonal colors that adds dimension to hair extension colors. Whether it is in the darker shades or platinum blondes, these colors have often been the choice for colder winter months. As Spring is approaching, our sleeper colors for 2009 are the Auburn colors. These dark tones will gradually soften as we approach the summer months giving the wearer a more natural, healthier look.

Hello All,

Taking a break from our usual hair topics because I feel it is necessary to mention the incredible change that is happening in our country. It has truly been a historic event watching yesterday's inaguration of our 44th President. Makes me proud to be an American!! I am looking forward to the changes and initiatives this administration has promised. It is a breath of fresh air to have someone that is so charasmatic and driven to deliver changes for his fellow Americans. We all know that 2008 has been a rough year for everyone but I believe that with new change, we can turn this country around! I look forward to hearing all your comments! Winter weather for human hair extensions

Winter is back and so is winter hair. For those of you unfamiliar with winter hair, the air during the winter becomes extremely dry and often leaves some people with frizzy unmanagleable hair. It just can't be avoided.

When your natural hair becomes frizzy or extemely dry so does your extensions. Here are some winter hair care tips for your hair extensions.

If you find your hair extensions lifting because of static electricity, just try rubbing a dryer sheet on your hair extensions. This should eliminate the annoying lifting caused by static.

If you find your hair extensions dry and frizzy it is probably the result of the lack of moisture. Simply wash your hair extensions with a moisturizing shampoo and leave-in conditioner. It is also not necessary to wash your hair extensions daily. Always remember to follow the hair maintenance instructions that come with your hair extensions.

During the winter season, try to stay away from hair spray as it leaves the hair extensions dry and sticky which could cause breakage.

If you find your hair extensions becoming tangled, try applying a small amount of baby oil onto your hands then apply them to the tangles. Rub them throughout the tangled area and run your fingers through it. Pull gently through the knot. Finally, simply shampoo to clean out the oil.

Hope everyone out in cyberspace had a nice weekend. Thought I would change the topic up and talk about our 100% Kanekalon Braiding Hair. We have been talking about human hair extensions but lets get back to the basics of what really started this industry; synthetic hair and more so Kanekalon Synthetic Braiding hair. Black 'n Gold has been recognized as one of the leaders in producing great Kanekalon Braiding Hair. Why you may ask. Well, I am here to give you an answer. First of all, do not be fooled by other companies that try to imitate our brand. We had more than a few companies copy our color and packaging style. Some unethical companies have even gone so far as to state they are Kanekalon. I consider that to be outrageous!! I digress and thats another issue. =)

We feel our Classic Kanekalon braids are superior because they do not cut the braiders hands. That is especially important when you spend a significant time doing a head of hair. Our braids do no leave the hand feeling "rapsy" and the fibers lock into place. For those of you interested in making dread falls, our braids also seal well and back comb well. I hear from some of our dread fall clients that those 2 aspects are essential to making a great dreadfall.

Besides having a good quality product, we believe our braids are affordable. We have packed 3oz of hair into each pack of our Classic braiding hair. Normally 6 oz's are needed to do a full head of hair meaning 2 packs. We believe in giving value to our clients as well as putting out a superior product. Less is more. Buying 2 packs of hair is sufficient enough to finish a full head compared to other companies which takes 3 packs of hair.

What is good hair weave?

Many customers have complained about hair extensions and how they do not last as long as expected. The primary reason for this concern is that alot of factories are producing what is called mixed hair. These mixed hair extensions have a mixture of animal hair or synthetic fiber in them. Not only do these types of hair extensions have bad usability but they do not curl aswell. These issues limits the hair styles that can be achieved using hair extensions. Why would you buy fake hair? The reason why they produce these types of hair extensions is to keep the cost low. In an economy which is rapidly decreasing and the price of raw human hair materials rapidly rising, factories produce these products to achieve some sort of balance.

The quality of the hair extensions is also becoming an increased concern as most companies do not have their own manufacturing plant. They simply buy what is the cheapest available from factories and resell them here in the US. Many consumers complain about the quality of the human hair extensions they purchase with other companies. Essentially you get what you pay for. With the production of our famous Classic Braid hair using 100% Kanekalon fiber and continued success for more than 30 years, we have created a newer, softer, longer and more volume braiding hair fiber. Introducing the African Empress Braid. It contains an estimated 3 1/4 ounce of synthetic hair. It is produced using a revolutionary new method to increase softness called steam treatment.

With steam treated Kanekalon fiber, it enables the hair to be softer yet not compromising its great locking ability when the hair is braided. African Empress Braids are 34" in folded length and available in 25 different colors. Although the colors are limited in African Empress Braids, the Classic Braid remains our most significant achievement to the braiding hair industry.

Both braids do not leave your hands feeling raspy and unlike the other braiding hair in the industry it locks easily and does not slip. There are two types of textures. First is yaki hair and the second is silky hair. Yaki hair is significantly more coarse in texture than silky hair. Most people who prefer the yaki hair is of women of color or of african descent. Although pricing for yaki hair and silky hair is similar, the question of hair texture is which is similar to your real hair. Hair texture is important to match your real hair so that it blends naturally to your real hair. Yaki hair is produced using a grid material to press into silky hair to give it a coarse texture. There are myths that yaki hair will tangle or matte less than silky hair but it is only a myth. When using superior grade human hair, both silky and yaki will tangle and matte less. Presented below are five such tips to help you get more out of your hair extensions. Please remember as these are guidelines to follow and are not set in stone!

Never sleep on Wet Hair!

Though this should be common knowledge to anybody that had ever had extensions but this is a tip that we cannot stress more. Always air dry your hair extensions. If not enough time allows, thoroughly and we mean thoroughly dry your extensions. Sleeping on wet hair extensions will not only weaken and damage your extensions but will result in breakage or tangling of them.

It is best not to use a brush but if you absolutely need to brush your extensions, use a wide tooth comb or your fingers instead.

Why use a wide tooth comb? With finer and regular brushes, the bristles on the brush are tightly packed together. Brushing with them will lead to the loosening of the extensions in the weft area resulting in shedding. By using a wide tooth comb, one can help maintain the style and quality of the extension without placing unnecessary stress on the weft area. In case your hair extensions have matted or tangled, We also recommend using your fingers to gently go through the hair in a downward motion gently releasing each follicle to prevent further matting.

Do not perm, color, tint or use any other chemicals.

Synthetic weaving hair is made using synthetic fibers, usually Kanekalon® or Toyokalon®. Small companies may use some no name synthetic to keep costs low however synthetic hair, similar to human hair does come on a weft and on folded strands of up to 28 inches or longer for braiding hair. Usually they contain an estimated ~3.0 oz. If not, your using something called P.P. fiber braids which are inferior in quality to the two I've mentioned above. As the price of Human Hair increases synthetic hair has become extremely popular as the "Human Hair alternative". Over the years, synthetic hair has evolved into something called a high temperature synthetic fiber. These synthetics are used for both braiding and weaving, and yes it does curl using an electric curling iron or straightener. It is still recommended not to use stove irons as they can melt the synthetics. As for longevity, it does not last as long as human hair because it tends to easily frizz and tangle uncontrollably in a shorter period of time. Depending on the quality of hair, if well maintained, synthetic hair can give a more natural look and feel than its human hair rivals. Synthetic hair is extremely lower in cost than human hair and since the economy is failing, most consumers choose this option. The costs of synthetic fibers range from $5.00 to $10.00 per package, depending on synthetic fiber, length, and etc.

Technological breakthroughs in synthetics allows for the use of electric curling irons and electric straighteners. Other synthetics such as braiding fibers i.e. Kanekalon® or Toyokalon® should not be used with curling irons or straighteners. Instead dip them in some hot water and watch it curl but thats another post. Anyway, there are newer versions of synthetic hair from some brands that claim to allow styling with lower temperatures of heating appliances.

Human Hair

The industry is feeling a shortage of Human Hair raw materials thus the reason for prices sky rocketing. Human hair raw materials? I'm talking about the hair that is cut from people wanting to sell their hair. Human hair extensions manufactured for hair weaves or braiding primarily comes from Asia. There are also different grades of hair that I have mentioned previously. The highest grade also called the "Remi grade", "luxury grade", or "Grade A", is unprocessed. Being unprocessed leaves all cuticles in the same direction keeping hair cuticles in alignment from rubbing against each other in different directions causing tangles or breakage.

Always keep in mind when purchasing High quality 100% genuine human hair, it is more expensive than hair mixed with other materials i.e. synthetics or animal hair. Beware of human hair extensions mixed with synthetic hair as it will be difficult to perm, straighten, and even color. FYI, The higher the cost the longer you will be able to use.
